Keeping Product Packaging and Advertising Artwork Consistent
Customers may see a product in an advertisement before they see its packaging. If names, colours or versions differ between the two, the connection becomes harder to recognise. Coordinating the artwork helps a business present the same product clearly across printed and digital materials.
Establish an approved product reference
Create a controlled reference containing the exact product name, variant, logo and current packaging appearance. Ask the business owner to confirm factual details and any statements that appear in advertising. Do not assume that wording visible in an old photograph remains current. Keep the approved reference available to designers, photographers and production suppliers.
Separate brand consistency from production constraints
Colours may appear differently on a screen, coated paper or a package material. Discuss the relevant printing process and review a suitable proof when colour is important. Maintain a recognisable hierarchy even when dimensions differ. Packaging artwork may contain technical areas such as folds or supplier-defined print zones; these should be checked with the production team rather than inferred from a promotional image.
Use the correct product image in every version
Confirm that the photograph or render shows the version being promoted. Check visible labels, colour variants and accessories. Retouching should not hide differences that customers need to understand. If packaging is being updated, agree which images can remain in use and when old artwork must be replaced. The illustration accompanying this guide is an example from the company profile, not a current offer or product endorsement.
Make the approval record easy to follow
Review the package reference alongside the poster, social artwork and any sales sheet. Check spelling, contact information and product identifiers. Give each approved version a date or revision label and retain the supplier specifications. A simple change log helps future updates reach every affected asset instead of leaving inconsistent versions circulating.
