Branded Desk Calendars: Checking Dates, Layout and Everyday Use

A branded calendar can remain useful long after a promotional event, provided its information is correct and its layout suits everyday use. The approval process should cover the calendar data, readable typography, practical construction and the brand message. Treat it as a working desk item rather than a logo placed on a date grid.

Confirm the year and calendar conventions

State the required year explicitly in the brief and on the proof checklist. Agree the language, order of weekdays and whether the week begins on Sunday or Monday. Verify every month against a reliable calendar for that year. If public holidays are included, obtain current official information and decide how to handle dates that may change. Do not copy a previous year’s layout and assume only the heading needs updating.

Review the information at actual size

Print a proof at the planned size and view it from a normal desk position. Check that dates, month names and any notes remain clear without competing with decorative elements. Leave writing space if the calendar is intended for appointments. For bilingual versions, confirm that Arabic and English labels correspond and that right-to-left text does not reverse the calendar data. Review both sides if the design uses a reversible stand.

Match the construction to daily handling

Discuss the base, page attachment and method of moving between months with the production team. A sample should stand securely and allow the user to turn or change pages comfortably. Check edges and any moving parts during approval. Consider how the finished item will be packed and delivered without bending. Specify the expected use rather than choosing a material from a photograph alone.

Separate branding approval from date approval

Assign a reviewer for calendar accuracy and another for artwork where possible. Confirm the logo version, contact details and any QR destination separately from the dates. Record the approved proof and quantity, and inspect a production sample before final delivery. Keep the source file and the review notes for next year, but repeat the calendar checks rather than treating the old approval as reusable.
