How to Prepare a Brief for an Acrylic Fabrication Project

A clear fabrication brief helps a supplier understand the function, appearance and production requirements of a custom item. It is especially useful when a sketch must become a physical display or a branded accessory.

Describe the purpose in plain terms

Explain what the item should do and who will use it. Include reference photographs but identify which features you want to adopt rather than treating an image as a complete specification. State the required quantity and where the item will be placed. If it must fit existing furniture, provide measurements of the surrounding space.

Separate requirements from preferences

Essential dimensions and load requirements should be distinguished from colour or styling preferences. Supply the logo artwork and explain which surfaces will be visible. Ask the fabricator to confirm the suitable material and assembly approach. A drawing with agreed dimensions is more useful for approval than a perspective image alone.

Agree how the result will be checked

Define what needs approval before production: measurements, appearance, branding and packaging. For a custom design, discuss whether a prototype is appropriate. Record any changes so the final brief and the approved drawing agree. This reduces confusion when the same product is reordered or delivered to several branches.
