How to Brief a Promotional Video for Your Business

A promotional video needs a clear purpose before filming begins. The audience, message and final viewing format determine what should be captured and how the finished piece should be edited.

Define one main message

Explain what the viewer should understand or do after watching. A service introduction, an event recap and a product promotion require different structures. Choose the key information and avoid adding every company detail to one short piece. Outline the opening, supporting scenes and closing action before arranging the shoot.

Plan filming for the final format

Tell the team where the video will appear and whether horizontal or vertical versions are needed. Consider the role of spoken audio, captions and on-screen text. Prepare locations, people and products and confirm permissions or access arrangements. If several versions are required, include them in the brief from the start.

Agree the review process

Decide who approves the script and edit and consolidate feedback into a clear list. Check spelling, telephone numbers and any promotional terms shown on screen. Confirm the final files and where they will be stored. A defined approval process helps keep revisions focused on the agreed objective instead of changing direction after filming.
